Insight Richmond was born from an idea from Founding Teacher, Ashley Sharp, when after moving to Richmond she recognized that Richmond was a bit of a dharma desert when it came to Insight Meditation. She asked her two Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader Program colleagues Mary Davis and Thomas Davis to join her in this new venture.
On March 23, 2016 Insight Richmond offered its first evening of meditation and dharma in the Children's Art Room at the Richmond Art Center. The space, while chaotic and a bit messy, held a wonderful creative energy, appropriate to a fledgling group.

Our super fancy sign
Despite the charm of our space at the Richmond Art Center, conditions were such that we had to move on. And in November of 2016, we were warmly welcomed by the Open Door United Methodist Church to meet in their wonderful sanctuary, giving us room to grow and get comfortable. Insight Richmond has been meeting there weekly ever since.
In June of 2018, Thomas left us to pursue some exciting opportunities in Los Angeles serving InsightLA. And while his wit and warmth are missed, he left us with memories of some unforgettable teachings. Ashley decided to move on to focus on her practice and other projects in November, but we look forward to her taking the seat as a guest teacher.
In addition to Mary, the teaching line up now includes many diverse and interesting teachers. Our sangha is friendly and welcoming, and loves to engage in discussion.
